Scotland-based Advisory Wbg Confirms Senior Appointments to Implement Growth Plans

Wbg, one of Scotland’s top independent specialist accounting consultancy, audit, and tax businesses, has appointed two senior executives to newly formed positions to accelerate its expansion objectives. Victoria Kirkhope’s position as People & Culture Partner is to drive the people and culture agenda across Wbg, supporting the company’s ambitious growth strategy.

Gordon Merrylees’ position as Head of Entrepreneurship is to assist Scott Grant, Head of Business Development, in expanding Wbg’s offering to entrepreneurial-led SMEs across the United Kingdom.

Ms Kirkhope is an experienced senior HR professional who has spent 20 years with RSM, most recently serving as a key member of the UK firm’s National Leadership Team as Partner – Head of People.

Her experience and expertise include personnel management, leadership development, facilitating organisational and cultural transformation, and promoting employee engagement. Ms Kirkhope stated on her hiring, “I’m delighted to be joining the Wbg team at a time of exciting growth.” The leadership team’s commitment and goal impressed me from the start.

Their drive to innovation and excellence is consistent with my own ideals, and I believe we have a wonderful opportunity ahead. I’m very excited to contribute to Wbg’s future success.”
During his 36-year career at RBS, Mr Merrylees worked with and helped many entrepreneurs, early-stage startups, and high-growth SMEs while leading and eventually accelerating the Bank’s support programme for UK firms.

Mr Merrylees joined N4 Partners as Head of Ventures in 2022, supporting the firm’s broader work of investing third-party capital, making direct investments, supporting entrepreneurs, and partnering with high-growth, fast-moving businesses in the UK that have reached critical inflection points.
Gordon will continue in his N4 job while also supporting Wbg’s Business Development division, which is led by Scott Grant.

N4 Partners’ recent seven-figure investment made it the dominant shareholder of Wbg. Mr. Merrylees commented on his arrival: “I’m both honoured and delighted to join Wbg at such an exciting time with ambitious growth plans to scale the business throughout the coming months and years.”

At Wbg, we consider entrepreneurs as the lifeblood of the UK economy, and we see enormous opportunity to support their business growth goals by providing specialised accounting, advising, audit, and tax skills to help them start, scale, and flourish.”

CEO Allan Dowie stated, “We’re delighted to have secured the services of such talented and experienced professionals as Victoria and Gordon to Wbg. Both will play crucial roles in helping us drive forward our growth agenda in the coming months and years.”

Wbg opened its new office network last month, and the company now operates in six major locations: Aberdeen, Ayrshire, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Lanarkshire, and Manchester, with a sixth location planned in the future months.

Wbg has made six acquisitions and employs 170 people since its inception in 2022, and it expects to raise its headcount by 15% over the next few months through organic growth and acquisition.
