President Joe Biden is set to announce a new national target to adopt environment-friendly electric vehicles on Thursday. According to the report by senior administration officials, the new proposal includes a target of over 40% new auto sales by the end of 2030.
The new national target is anticipated to be supported by organizations such as Ford Motor, General Motors, and other automakers. Executives from all Detroit automakers are called on for attending an event at the White House on Thursday.
The proposed document encourages the U.S. government and automakers to promote legislation and adopt electrified vehicles to push for the target of zero-emission. The proposed targets and standards are subject to a comment from the public and final approval.
“Today, Ford, GM, and Stellantis announce their shared aspiration to achieve sales of 40-50% of annual U.S. volumes of electric by 2030 in order to move the nation closer to a zero-emissions future consistent with Paris climate goals. We look forward to working with the Biden Administration, Congress, and state and local governments to enact policies that will enable these ambitious objectives,” the automakers said in a joint statement.
