Vital serves as the central agency for corporate shared services within the Singapore public service. It is tasked with overseeing and innovating the delivery of corporate services for the government.
For years, Vital, a government agency, had been quietly managing the payroll and expense claims of over 100,000 public servants in Singapore.
It operated in the background with its 500 employees diligently performing tasks like cutting, pasting, and reconciling spreadsheets. Their work, often tedious and labor-intensive, could have easily been automated.
Four years ago, a transformative event occurred. The agency welcomed a new leader, harboring a fresh vision, and for its 500 employees, a newfound ambition emerged—to evolve into citizen developers.
In this installment of Work Talk, ST senior correspondent Krist Boo invites you into Vital to introduce Mr. Dennis Lui, its CEO, and explore how staff members are taking charge of automating their own work processes.
In a special podcast segment, as Chinese New Year approaches, discover insights into what the 2024 Dragon Year might hold for you, as shared by Master Ken Koh from The House of Feng Shui.
