Hotard takes over for Sandra Rivera, who is leaving Intel’s data center division to head the brand-new standalone programmable chip division.
With $11 billion in earnings in the first nine months of the year, data centers are among Intel’s biggest and most lucrative commercial ventures. However, competitors such as AMD and Nvidia have been gaining market share from Intel. Due to the competition and a slowdown in business investment, Intel’s data center revenue decreased by about 25% this year.
The semiconductor manufacturer is optimistic that new product lines of Intel will boost the company’s competitiveness, particularly in the burgeoning data center artificial intelligence industry.
In a written statement, Intel CEO Pat Gelsinger stated, “Justin is committed to our vision to create world-changing technologies and passionate about the critical role Intel will play in empowering our customers for decades to come.”

Rivera took over as CEO of Intel’s programmable solutions division on Monday after the firm split it out into a stand-alone division. Within two to three years, Intel stated that it plans to sell a share of the company to the general public.
Intel also said that Arun Subramaniyan, another leader from its data center division, had left to lead Articul8, a new artificial intelligence startup that the chipmaker and investors including Mindset Ventures and DigitalBridge Group Inc. founded.
