Sheryl Sandberg leaves Meta as the highest-profile and most successful tech woman after trading over $1.7 billion in stock sales.
According to Forbes, Sandberg’s estimated total wealth is $1.6 billion, the second wealthiest tech woman after Meg Whitman. Whitman previously held the top job at HP, and her estimated worth is $3.2 billion.
Sandberg is also one of the few non-founders and non-CEOs to become a billionaire.
Sandberg has been a consistent and aggressive seller of Facebook stock.
Ben Silverman, director of research at VerityData, said, “Her sales over the past decade make her one of the biggest insider sellers at any U.S. company.”
A spokesperson for Sandberg said, “Sandberg acquired 48 million restricted stock units, options, and shares during her time at the company. About 20 million were sold for taxes, and she sold 22 million of the remaining 28 million through a 10b5-1 pre-schedule selling program.”
According to VerityData, “Sandberg’s average stock sale price over the past decade was $79.10 per share, with her most recent sale in October 2019.”
