The multinational technology company, Apple achieved its highest-ever market share in China in the fourth quarter, reclaiming the number one spot in the country for the first time in six years.

Apple’s smartphone market reached 23% of the market and sales grew 32% year-on-year in the December quarter, according to Counterpoint. The tech giant saw solid growth despite a 9% fall in China’s overall smartphone sales.

Apple was last ranked number one in 2015 when the company launched its iPhone6, which attracted Chinese consumers with its large screens.

“The new iPhone 13 has led the success due to a relatively lower starting price at its release in China, as well as the new camera and 5G features,” – said, Counterpoint Research’s analyst Mengmeng Zhang.

Additionally, Apple’s main competitor, Huawei faced a decline in sales due to the ongoing US sanctions. Chinese brands Vivo and Oppo ranked first and second with 22% and 21% respectively in the year 2021.
