Blue Origins

Canadian actor, William Shatner well-known for his appearance as Captain Kirk in the original Star Trek television series, will finally be aboard in spaceflight scheduled by Blue Origins.

Shatner will be joined by the Vice president of Blue Origins, Audrey Powers, with Planet Labs co-founder Chris Boshuizen and Medidata co-founder Glen de Vries. The launch is scheduled for the 12th of October at 8 a.m. ET.

The launch will be the second spaceflight for Blue Origin’s tourism and research. Shatner would become the oldest person to fly to space at 90.

The space trips of Blue Origin’s New Shepard take 10 minutes from liftoff to landing. It is a reusable rocket that carries the capsule up past the U.S. boundary of space at 80 kilometres altitude.

Jeff Bezos stated that Blue Origin has already sold $100 million worth of tickets for future passengers after his own travel to space. The company plans three crew missions in 2021.
