The drugmaker companies Pfizer and BioNTech announced on Monday that their Covid vaccine is safe and produces a strong immune response in the trial of kids from ages 5 to 11.

Pfizer tested a two-dose of 10 micrograms, one-third of the dosage used for teens and adults. These two doses were administered three weeks apart.

Pfizer said that the shots were well tolerated by kids and produced a robust immune response in them.

“The data included more than 2,200 children, will be submitted to the Food and Drug Administration and other health regulators as soon as possible.” the companies said.

Pfizer CEO Albert Bourla said, “We are eager to extend the protection afforded by the vaccine to this younger population, subject to regulatory authorization, especially as we track the spread of the Delta variant and the substantial threat it poses to children.”

Pfizer also expects to release the clinical trial data on the efficacy of its vaccine in children from 6 months to 5 years old by the end of October.
