What values and principles do you prioritize in your leadership style, and how do they contribute to the success of your team and organization?

I believe my leadership style is democratic; the whole team is a part of creating a vision and the ideal way to get there. I value transparency in decision-making, and I want my team to feel as involved in work processes as I am.

The key is to make employees aware that they’re part of a larger team, and the focus is on the value of collaboration and knowing that each of them plays a role in the evolution of their work environment. As a leader, I foster discussion while also stepping in when needed and making a decision that’s guided by overall input.

Can you recall a specific challenge you faced as a business leader and how you navigated through it, showcasing your problem-solving and decision-making skills?

One significant challenge I faced as a leader was during a period of rapid industry disruption. I had to try and stay ahead of the game to ensure Lexar was well-positioned to embrace rapid advancements in technology and adapt to changing customer preferences.

To address this challenge, I initiated a comprehensive strategic review involving key stakeholders from various departments. We conducted a thorough analysis of market trends, customer feedback, and emerging technologies. It became evident that a digital transformation was imperative for our sustained growth. I engaged with the leadership team to communicate the vision clearly and garner their support, and in turn, the support of the wider organization.

Next, I focused on talent acquisition and development to ensure we had the right skills within the organization to drive digital transformation. This involved upskilling existing employees, hiring experts, and fostering a culture of continuous learning.

How do you foster innovation and a culture of continuous improvement within your team or organization?

Innovation and customer-centricity are at the core of everything we do at Lexar, as is evident from the superior performance of our products and the trust shown in us by our ever-growing customer base. We are geared towards providing the best innovative technologies and solutions to help our consumers across markets access, protect, and store their most valuable digital data.

The key to our innovative approach is the mindset of continuous improvement that is imbibed in our employees. The people who innovate often bring ideas from a different industry, environment, culture, or setting into their current area. As a leader, I constantly try to remove the taboo of failure at the workplace, as I believe that each failure contains the seeds of success—if you are willing to learn from it.

In your experience, what role does effective communication play in leadership, and how do you ensure clear communication across different levels of your organization?

Effective communication is crucial for successful leadership. It helps me and my leadership team to articulate our vision, provide guidance, build trust, resolve conflicts, inspire, foster collaboration, and provide feedback.

As a leader, I must understand the importance of both one-way and two-way communication. Often, what I have to communicate to the wider organization are decisions that have already been made and directives that must be followed. Regardless of the situation, allowing my team members to voice their disagreements about decisions is key—because understanding their concerns is important. This is why it is vital to frame our communication clearly and address any concerns before they are presented, as this can lead to faster acceptance.

The key components of effective communication include clarity, active listening, empathy, adaptability, transparency, and constructive feedback, and I try to incorporate these elements into the various communication channels we have at Lexar.

What strategies do you employ to build and maintain a motivated and high-performing team?

High-performing teams are critical to helping companies thrive and survive in today’s intensely competitive business landscape. Effectively developing such teams involves identifying strengths and grouping people who collaborate well and complement the differing talents, skills, and attributes to create a holistic force that works consistently towards meeting challenges and business goals.

However, building a high-performing team is quite a task, especially when technology is rapidly remodeling the working environment. At Lexar, we place significant importance on team composition and having complementary skills when building effective teams. Teams that share values about where they’re going perform better.

We also recognize that it is vital to create a team where each member shares a bond and interacts freely. This happens when they align with the leader’s values and work in unison to achieve a common goal. When team members start believing that they can win together, they get more done. Equally important is the need to foster a culture of continuous learning to navigate the issues of skill gaps and different digital transformations.

As a leader, my primary role when it comes to building and maintaining high-performing teams is to help the team members stay focused on the vision through constant, effective, and transparent communication.

Can you share an example of a significant business decision you made that had a positive impact on both your organization and its stakeholders?

I would say Lexar decided to prioritize Research & Development. However, I wouldn’t take the entire credit for this, as this is something that my leadership team was equally involved in. Over the years, Lexar has invested millions of dollars in its world-class R&D facilities with the overarching goal of bringing to market memory and storage solutions that are technologically superior and address the evolving needs of today’s consumers.

Our product designs undergo extensive testing in the Lexar Quality Labs, facilities with more than 1,100 digital devices, to ensure performance, quality, compatibility, and reliability. We are committed to providing outstanding customer service with friendly interactions, personalized advice, and expert support. With this dedication to performance, reliability, and support, customers can count on Lexar when it comes to storing the memories that matter.

What advice would you give to aspiring business leaders looking to make a meaningful impact in their respective industries?

If there was only one piece of advice I could offer, it would be to ‘never give up despite the odds’. Some people are great when things are going well, but they fall apart when things aren’t. The highly accomplished people I’ve come across in my life were paragons of perseverance. No matter the domain, they had a kind of ferocious determination that helped them become unusually resilient and perseverant.

Beyond your professional achievements, can you share a personal philosophy or belief that has guided you throughout your career and life?

There are a few principles that I’ve been guided by all through my life.

  1. There is no better way to learn how to succeed in business or corporate life than to learn from mistakes—yours or someone else’s.
  2. Focus on your priorities. Successful organizations and people know what their priorities are: they tackle the really important projects, and the rest falls into place.
  3. Stay humble through the highs and patient through the lows.
