Sony Set to Launch New PlayStation Plus Gaming Subscription Service this Summer

Sony announced on Tuesday that it will launch a new video game subscription service in this summer to increase sales of its PlayStation consoles and fight with a similar service from Microsoft.

Sony said Tuesday that it will bundle its current PlayStation Plus and PlayStation Now services into single subscription service ‘PlayStation Plus’. The new PlayStation Plus will be available from June in three forms: Essential, Extra and Premium.

With the announcement of the News, shares of Sony were trading marginally higher on Tuesday.

This move by Sony is viewed by industry insiders as company’s response to a game subscription service from Microsoft which allows users to download and stream a set of different games.

Sony said its PlayStation Plus Premium service would allow users stream games to their PC and the PS4 and PS5. Players can try some games for a short time before buying them.

Sony’s PlayStation boss, Jim Ryan, said, “The new Extra and Premium tiers represent a major evolution for PlayStation Plus. With these tiers, our key focus is to ensure that the hundreds of games we offer will include the best quality content that sets us apart.”
