According to a U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration filing, company of Elon Musk Tesla, has recalled almost 1.1 million vehicles across all four of its models because the electric windows could close too quickly and potentially snag drivers or passengers.
Owners of electric vehicles won’t have to wait for service because the manufacturer plans to correct the issue with an over-the-air update. According to the NHTSA’s filing, which was dated Monday and made public on Thursday, the recall affects Model S, X, 3 and Y vehicles built in various model years between 2017 and 2022.
Window reversal technology, which pauses closing windows when it detects obstructions, may not respond quickly enough, according to NHTSA. The filing said that the windows could close with too much force.
In August, when conducting production testing, Tesla found the issue. Owners will be informed in writing beginning on November 15th. According to business papers, updates for vehicles in production began on September 13th.
As of September 16th, Tesla was not aware of any warranty claims or injuries as a result of the issue.
