Venture Capital Platform, Atomico Signs Two Women Leaders into its Firm
Atomico, the European venture capital firm has inked Sasha Astafyeva as its new Consumer-focused Partner, and former-Googler Terese Hougaard on the role of firm’s Principal.
Headquartered in London and offices in Beijing, Paris, Tokyo, Sao Paulo and Stockholm, Atomico has been founded by a serial entrepreneur Niklas Zennstrom in 2006 who previously had co-founded Skype and Kazaa.
Sasha Astafyeva, who is originally from Ukraine, has spent many years as a professional who worked in various companies on a number of roles prior joining the Atomico. She previously has spent three years as a Principal at venture Felix Capital. She held the role of Head of Business Intelligence and Strategy at Lyst, the London-based online fashion marketplace. She has worked as the VP of Finance and Business Intelligence at VivaReal, an online real estate marketplace in Brazil. She also did a stint at Dafiti, the Latin American online fashion company. Now, in her new role, she is going to lead ‘sourcing, due diligence, and management’ of Atomico-backed consumer tech companies, as per the company’s decision.
Sasha states, “I’m very excited to join the team and help lead our consumer-focused efforts. It is absolutely an interesting time to join as we find ourselves in a world with highly elevated levels of uncertainty, tremendous economic hardships across the world and varying, and often fast-changing, responses of countries to this new reality. I think that we are only seeing the beginning of this and time will tell what our new reality will look like.”
On the other hand, the new Principal Terese Hougaard is originally from Denmark and also has worked in various companies before joining the VC firm. Previously, She was working in CapitalG venture, which is an Alphabet’s growth equity investment fund based in Mountain View. She has spent five years at Alphabet and partnered with companies like Stripe, Robinhood, Gusto, and UiPath. She has also worked in Google’s SMB marketing organization in London. She held roles in internal strategy and e-commerce business development in American Express at the London and New York offices.
